Hicks was a member of Kara Walker’s 6-8 Months Space, and holds a culinary diploma from ICE in New York City. Most recently, he was the composer for Lynn Nottage's play Clyde's on Broadway. His work has been featured at Lincoln Center, The Public, Baryshnikov Art Center, and more. He’s worked with notable artists such as Abigail DeVille, Kaneza Schaal, Meshell Ndegeocello, Hilton Als, Bill T. Justin Hicks is a Drama Desk-nominated singer-songwriter, and sound artist. She is currently a rehearsal director at Sleep No More NYC, and adjunct faculty at NYU Tisch. In 2022, she releases the feature film Martyr’s Fiction, and will collaborate with Belinda McGuire, Kenyon Adams, BODYTRAFFIC, Louis Armstrong House and others. In 2021, she created the dance piece “Broken Record” with Brandon Coleman for Little Island Festival, and the films Rinsing (co-directed by Melanie Charles), and Y’ll D’nt Care Abt Black Women, amongst other projects. Farrish’s live performances and films have been shown at Judson Church, Danspace, Jacob's Pillow, New York Live Arts, Joe’s Pub, BAAD!, film festivals, and beyond. It’s all part and parcel with Menzie’s new collection of songs, the appropriately titled Lost in Dreams. It’s a reminder that we can’t control the world around us, or the actions of others and we need to have faith in ourselves and roll with the punches.” “I wrote it for those who are feeling confused or unsure about who they are or where they’re going. ![]() “Have Faith is a song about self-reflection and love,” says Menzie. ![]() One way or another (it’s probably going to be the murder hornets) 2020 is the year we’re all going to learn patience and, more importantly, self-reliance. ![]() The song’s release is either apropos or conspicuously timely, given that no one even batted an eye at the American government acknowledging the presence of UFOs. Menzie’s “Have Faith” isn’t a nod to George Michael (it’d be too much to handle with all this social distancing), but a bolstering shot in the arm that says we can all handle this if we just Tinkerbell our way out of it. “Have Faith,” the second single to be released from his Lost in Dreams album isn’t necessarily religious, but a reminder to believe yourself, the fact that you have survived thus far, and along with your accumulated skills (and a little luck), may continue to so.
